MicroVas

MicroVas, also known as Micro Vascular Therapy or MVT, is a treatment used to relieve the symptoms of Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy, a common complication of diabetes. MicroVas was originally developed by the U.S. military to treat hypothermia in Navy SEALS. This non-invasive, pain-free therapy uses electronic impulses to cause muscle contraction and relaxation cycles which stimulate circulation. Increased blood flow raises the oxygen level in the tissues, which promotes healing in the nerves and muscles which have been damaged.

In many diabetic patients, blood flow is compromised because persistent high blood sugar has caused vascular damage, which results in decreased blood flow to the surrounding tissues. When blood flow is reduced, gas and fluid exchange is reduced, which allows toxins to build up in the tissues, causing further damage. MicroVas stimulates blood flow in these regions to remove toxins, speed healing, and restore balance and proper function.

More than 85% of MicroVas Therapy patients have experienced improved sensation and reduced pain, and half of these patients have experienced full restoration of their sensation.

What to expect during a MicroVas treatment:

microvasMicroVas treatments use strategically placed emitter pads in diametrical pairs so that a comfortable, deep penetrating waveform may pass through the lower leg or foot.

Initially, you will be evaluated for signs and symptoms of neuropathy. Further testing may be done to determine the extent and severity of your nerve damage. This may include nerve conduction studies and epidermal nerve fiber density testing. Once we confirm that your symptoms are due to a neuropathy, we will begin MicroVas therapy.

While you’re seated, emitter pads are placed on your feet, ankles, legs, and thighs. Both legs receive the therapy at the same time. Comfortable electric impulses are then passed through your body, creating circulation in the affected areas through neuromuscular stimulation of the venous muscle pump, and by upregulating the metabolic process.

MicroVas therapy lasts for approximately 45 minutes and is usually well tolerated with no complications. We recommend biweekly MicroVas therapy in order to promote increased vascularization and nerve regeneration. How many treatments are required will depend on the severity of your condition.

Although individual results may vary, most patients report a decrease in the original symptoms of burning, tingling, and numbness. At the end of 8 weeks of MicroVas treatment, your balance is restored and quality of life is improved. Testing suggests that the process is cumulative with repeated treatments, and the results to date have been long lasting.
